 STATEHOUSE PRESS STATEMENT PRESIDENT TINUBU'S MESSAGE OF CONDOLENCE TO CHIMAMANDA ADICHIE AND HER FAMILY   With a deep sense of grief, I condole with Ms Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, her husband, Dr Ivara Esege, and the entire family on the passing of their son, Nkanu Nnamdi.   As a parent myself who has suffered the loss of a loved one, no grief is as devastating as losing a child.   I empathise with the family at this difficult time, and I mourn this sad loss with them.   Ms Adichie is a literary icon who has brought joy and light to many homes globally, and I pray she and her family find strength in the Almighty in this trying hour.   My prayers are with the family.   Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Federal Republic of Nigeria January 8, 2026

 WAEC Disowns Viral List of 151 Schools with Withheld 2025 WASSCE Results, Warns Against Fake Notices


The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has debunked a viral list claiming that the results of candidates from 151 secondary schools in the May/June 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) were withheld due to alleged examination malpractice. The council, via its official X handle (@waecnigeria), on Tuesday urged the public to disregard the list, stating it did not originate from WAEC’s official channels.


The controversial list, dated August 4, 2025, and purportedly signed by Dr. Florence Ajayi, WAEC Nigeria’s Director of Examination Malpractice and Irregularities, named prominent schools such as Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary, Ikorodu; Atlantic Hall, Epe; Top Faith International School, Uyo; Corona Secondary School, Agbara; and Christ the King College, Onitsha, among others. It claimed the schools’ candidates’ results were withheld and directed principals to report to WAEC’s Lagos Zonal Office by August 16, 2025, with supporting documentation and exam scripts.


WAEC, however, dismissed the letter as fraudulent, stating, “Kindly ignore any message listing schools whose results were supposedly cancelled. Meanwhile, WAEC will never ask any centre to bring scripts of candidates to the office. Where would they get them from? Do not accept any message that is not on our handles and accredited media.”


On Monday, WAEC announced the 2025 WASSCE results, revealing that the results of 192,089 candidates—representing 9.75% of the 1,969,313 candidates who sat for the examination—were withheld due to suspected malpractice. Dr. Amos Dangut, Head of WAEC National Office, reported that only 38.32% of candidates achieved credits or above in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics. This marks a significant 33.8% decline from the 72.12% pass rate recorded in 2024, which Dangut attributed to stricter anti-malpractice measures introduced this year.


The council’s swift response aims to curb misinformation and maintain public trust as it continues investigations into the withheld results. WAEC has advised stakeholders to verify information solely through its official channels and accredited media outlets.

 Tinubu announces arrival of 4 US attack helicopters President Bola Tinubu has stated that four attack helicopters will soon arrive in the country from the United States amid rising insecurity.
