536 Suspended NPA Staff Cry Out Over 18 Years Unpaid Salaries, call for Justice

Some staff of the Nigerian Ports Authority, (NPA), whose salaries and allowances were allegedly stopped, have lamented untold hardship, after what they described as the unlawful suspension of their entitlements, for over 18 years.

The affected staff, while briefing journalists in Bauchi, Northeast Nigeria, appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene and order a thorough investigation into their plight.

According to them, about 536 staff members were affected.

They alleged that they were neither retrenched, dismissed, or indicted for any wrongdoing.

The group further alleged that despite a 2013 Federal High Court judgement in Ikoyi, Lagos, delivered in their favour, by Justice E.O. Abang, the NPA management has failed to comply.

They added that even after interventions from former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the House of Representatives and the Ministry of Transport in 2016, the NPA still ignored directives to resolve the matter.

Speaking on behalf of the affected workers, the group noted that many of the 536 staff have died, due to hardship.

They appealed to President Bola Tinubu and other relevant authorities for urgent intervention, stressing that they remain law-abiding citizens only seeking justice and fairness.
