Customs Kaduna Command Welcomes New Comptroller

The Nigeria Customs Service has ushered in fresh leadership at its Kaduna Area Command as Comptroller Sa’ad Hassan assumed office, pledging to sustain the command’s strong revenue performance and intensify the fight against smuggling.

He takes over from Assistant Comptroller-General Ahmed Tijjani Abe.

The handover was confirmed in a statement released on the Service’s official X handle on Tuesday, signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Customs Ridwan Yusuf.

According to the release, Abe officially bowed out on Friday, September 12, 2025. Under his watch, the Command generated ₦30.09 billion between January and August 2025, a 61.9 percent jump from the ₦18.58 billion collected in the same period of 2024, amounting to an extra ₦11.5 billion.

The Command credited the success to tougher anti-smuggling operations, smoother trade facilitation, closer engagement with stakeholders, and stronger security collaboration. Abe also earned praise for prioritising staff welfare and training to improve efficiency.

In his inaugural remarks, Comptroller Hassan lauded his predecessor’s record and promised to build on it. He said he would sustain the revenue growth, intensify the fight against smuggling, and strengthen trade facilitation in line with the Service’s mandate and the federal government’s economic diversification agenda.

He also appealed to stakeholders, including importers and clearing agents, for cooperation to ensure the Command continues to make meaningful contributions to national development.

The Kaduna appointment follows a similar transition in Lagos, where Comptroller Adebola Salawu recently replaced the retired Comptroller Sarah Wadinda at the Lagos Industrial Area Command. Salawu pledged to improve excise operations and strengthen stakeholder engagement, with a focus on adopting new systems and boosting officer training.
