 Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Dieperink was arrested in April by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom following a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said officers responded on April 9 to a report of sexual assault at an address in Croydon and arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of the offence.  DR ARASE WAS AN INSTITUTION IN HIMSELF, A RARE BLEND OF INTELLECT, DISCIPLINE, AND HUMANITY - IGP EGBETOKUN


The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has paid tribute to the late Inspector-General of Police and former Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Dr. Solomon Ehigiator Arase, Ph.D., NPM, FDC, CFR, describing his passing as “a loss that rests heavily, not only on his family, but on the Nigeria Police Force and the nation at large.”


The IGP gave this tribute on Wednesday, 24th September 2025, at the Day of Tributes in Celebration of the Life and Times of Late IGP Solomon Ehigiator Arase (Rtd), an event organised to honour the remarkable life, career, and contributions of the 18th indigenous Inspector-General of Police.


Reflecting on the life and career of the late IGP, Dr. Arase, IGP Egbetokun eulogised him as more than a police officer, but “an institution in himself, a rare blend of intellect, discipline, and humanity”. He recalled that from the moment Dr. Arase joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet ASP in 1981, his career became “a lesson in resilience, excellence, and duty. Moving through the ranks with quiet confidence, inspired not merely by ambition but by a genuine desire to leave the organisation better than he met it”. Dr. Arase rose to become the 18th indigenous Inspector-General of Police in 2015.


Present at the event were notable dignitaries including the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa; former Governor of Edo State, Senator Adams Oshiomhole; former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Victor Attah; former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu; former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; as well as former Inspectors-General of Police: Sunday Ehindero, Mike Mbama Okiro, Ogbonna Okechukwu Onovo, Mohammed Dikko Abubakar, Suleiman Abba, and Usman Alkali Baba, alongside several other eminent personalities, colleagues, and well-wishers who gathered to honour the late IGP’s remarkable legacy.
