 Somali PM calls on Somaliland to cut Israel ties, urges reconciliation Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has called on Somaliland’s leadership to cut ties with Israel and to resolve disputes with the federal government through dialogue. Barre said relations among Somalis should be addressed through talks rather than confrontation, in remarks during a ceremony to mark the first anniversary of the establishment of North East State. In December 2025, Israel announced mutual recognition with Somaliland, a move strongly rejected by the Somali government as a breach of its sovereignty and territorial integrity and criticised by many countries across the world. “Regarding our brothers in Somaliland, I have nothing new to say.  DR ARASE WAS AN INSTITUTION IN HIMSELF, A RARE BLEND OF INTELLECT, DISCIPLINE, AND HUMANITY - IGP EGBETOKUN


The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has paid tribute to the late Inspector-General of Police and former Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Dr. Solomon Ehigiator Arase, Ph.D., NPM, FDC, CFR, describing his passing as “a loss that rests heavily, not only on his family, but on the Nigeria Police Force and the nation at large.”


The IGP gave this tribute on Wednesday, 24th September 2025, at the Day of Tributes in Celebration of the Life and Times of Late IGP Solomon Ehigiator Arase (Rtd), an event organised to honour the remarkable life, career, and contributions of the 18th indigenous Inspector-General of Police.


Reflecting on the life and career of the late IGP, Dr. Arase, IGP Egbetokun eulogised him as more than a police officer, but “an institution in himself, a rare blend of intellect, discipline, and humanity”. He recalled that from the moment Dr. Arase joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet ASP in 1981, his career became “a lesson in resilience, excellence, and duty. Moving through the ranks with quiet confidence, inspired not merely by ambition but by a genuine desire to leave the organisation better than he met it”. Dr. Arase rose to become the 18th indigenous Inspector-General of Police in 2015.


Present at the event were notable dignitaries including the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa; former Governor of Edo State, Senator Adams Oshiomhole; former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Victor Attah; former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu; former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; as well as former Inspectors-General of Police: Sunday Ehindero, Mike Mbama Okiro, Ogbonna Okechukwu Onovo, Mohammed Dikko Abubakar, Suleiman Abba, and Usman Alkali Baba, alongside several other eminent personalities, colleagues, and well-wishers who gathered to honour the late IGP’s remarkable legacy.
