Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Dieperink was arrested in April by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom following a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said officers responded on April 9 to a report of sexual assault at an address in Croydon and arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of the offence. Police later said that after reviewing available evidence, including CCTV footage and digital devices, the investigation had concluded that “the evidential threshold had not been met” and no further action would be taken.  Fuel price surges to N1,700 per litre in Calabar

The cost of Premium Motor Spirit (fuel) has hit 1,700 naira per litre in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

This follows the industrial action declared by the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG).

The price rose astronomically within the metropolis as virtually all dispensing stations were under lock and key as a result of the strike.

This has caused a very sudden rise in the number of black marketers of the product who are seen in most streets along the metropolis selling the product to helpless car owners.

As of Tuesday afternoon, only black marketers were selling the product and there are fears the cost may hit 2000 naira per litre within the week if there is no speedy resolution to the dispute.

As a result of the increase, transporters within the city have increased their fares and in some cases doubled fares, an action which has aggravated the pains of commuters.

Checks by our correspondent revealed that fuel stations along popular areas including Efio-Ete Junction, Ekpo Abasi, Marian/Ndidem Usang Iso, MCC, Parliamentary, Yellow Duke and Murtala Muhammed Highway were locked.

Some routes like the Efio-Ete Junction to MCC Mobil, which was N100, is now N200 while commuters are made to pay up to 700 naira from Ekpo Abasi to Efio-Ete Junction.

Efforts to reach the Cross River State Chairman of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) Robert Obi have proved abortive as several calls and messages have neither been answered nor replied.
