Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Dieperink was arrested in April by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom following a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said officers responded on April 9 to a report of sexual assault at an address in Croydon and arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of the offence.  Kaduna Health Workers Celebrate As Gov. Uba Sani Approves New Pay Structure

Health workers across Kaduna State erupted in joy on Wednesday after Governor Uba Sani approved the implementation of the 2024 Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) and hazard allowances, effective September 2025.

The announcement was made during a press briefing in Kaduna by the Chairman of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Kaduna chapter, Ishaku Yakubu.

Yakubu hailed the decision as “long overdue,” describing it as a major win for the state’s health professionals who, he noted, had endured years of neglect under past administrations.

“This is highly commendable and timely. We’ve been pressing for this for over three years, even embarking on warning and indefinite strikes in the past to demand its implementation,” he said.

He explained that the approval signals a fresh chapter for nurses, midwives, and other health professionals, stressing that it would boost morale and improve service delivery across public hospitals.

Over the years, Kaduna health workers have staged several protests and strikes over poor welfare conditions, unpaid benefits, and inadequate hazard pay. During the COVID-19 pandemic, frontline staff repeatedly accused the state of abandoning them despite the risks they faced.

The new salary structure is seen as a policy shift from years of strained relations between the state government and its health sector workforce.

Previous administrations were often at loggerheads with unions, with disputes leading to mass sackings and prolonged strikes.

By implementing the CONHESS package and allowances, the Sani administration is being credited with restoring confidence among health workers, addressing brain drain, and strengthening healthcare delivery in the state.
