As part of activities marking the Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness Month, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has decorated the Obas-in-Council with purple ribbons in solidarity to the cause.

Leading the Agency’s delegation, the Executive Secretary, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, expressed appreciation to the distinguished Royal Fathers for their unwavering collaborative support.

In her address, Mrs. Oluwakemi Bello, Head of Field Operations, DSVA, highlighted the critical role of traditional rulers in shaping community values and their role in sustaining the fight against SGBV.

She further called for renewed commitment, reiterating that “the fight against SGBV requires continuous partnership to ensure safer communities for all.”

The Oba of Lagos, His Royal Majesty, Oba Rilwan Babatunde Akiolu, appreciated the team and requested concerted efforts to be deployed in preventing and raising awareness, especially at the grassroot and communities.

The event witnessed the engagement of about 50 traditional rulers, who pledged to continue championing the message of prevention and response to SGBV within their respective domains.

The “Turn Obas Purple” initiative is part of DSVA’s broader strategy to strengthen traditional institutions as allies in reducing the menace of SGBV across Lagos State.
