Netflix to allow users to create and share clips on mobile

Netflix on Wednesday unveiled an update to its “Moments” feature, giving mobile users the ability to select start and end points on clips to save and share with others. Originally launched last year, the feature lets viewers highlight favorite scenes from shows and share them directly from the app.

The update coincides with the release of the second part of season 2 of the hit series “Wednesday.” Users can now use a “clip” option to adjust segment length, with the clipped videos saved to the “My Netflix” tab for easy rewatching or sharing. The series, a modern take on “The Addams Family,” gained widespread attention last season when a dance scene featuring Wednesday went viral, becoming one of the show’s most recognized moments. With more than 252 million views, “Wednesday” is Netflix’s most popular series to date.

This new feature is part of a broader effort by Netflix to refresh its platform, including a redesigned homepage and a vertical video feed on mobile reminiscent of TikTok. The company has also introduced initiatives like a lower-cost ad-supported plan and a crackdown on password sharing to strengthen its business model following a period of stagnation in 2022. While Netflix no longer discloses subscription numbers regularly, it reported more than 300 million paid members as of January.
