Nigeria's problems did not start with Tinubu's reforms, Says SGF Akume

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, has stated that Nigeria’s challenges predate the administration of President Bola Tinubu, emphasizing that the president has initiated robust reforms to tackle these issues.

Speaking on Sunday at a special service organized to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day Celebration at the National Ecumenical Centre in Abuja, Akume highlighted the role of every Nigerian in nation-building. “Each Nigerian has a role in building the Nigeria that we deserve,” he declared.

The former Benue State Governor reiterated President Tinubu’s commitment to transforming the nation, pointing to key reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies, among others. He urged Nigerians to support the president’s efforts, noting that some of these reforms could have been implemented decades ago.

“What President Bola Tinubu is doing today could have been done 39 years ago. But I believe that at the end of the tunnel, there is light,” Akume said, expressing optimism about the future of the country under Tinubu’s leadership.

The SGF’s remarks underscore the administration’s push for transformative policies while calling for collective responsibility to achieve a prosperous Nigeria.
