Suspect on the run after car crashes into FBI gate in possible 'act of terror,' official says

A man from Penn Hills, Pennsylvania, is being sought after allegedly ramming his car into a security gate at the FBI’s Pittsburgh field office early Wednesday morning in what officials described as a deliberate and targeted attack. The incident occurred around 2:40 a.m. when the suspect, identified as 49-year-old Donald Henson, allegedly drove at high speed toward the facility’s main entrance, according to FBI Special Agent in Charge Christopher Giordano.

“This was a targeted attack on this building,” Giordano said, calling the ramming “an act of terror against the FBI.” He added that while no injuries were reported, the bureau would “exhaust every ability under federal law” to locate, apprehend, and prosecute Henson. Investigators said vulgar language was scrawled on the vehicle, possibly referencing suicide, though full details were not disclosed. After the crash, Henson allegedly exited the vehicle, placed an American flag on the gate, and then fled the scene.

Authorities said Henson is a registered military veteran and may be experiencing a mental health crisis. He had recently visited the FBI office to make a complaint that investigators deemed baseless. Surveillance footage was compared to his driver’s license photo to confirm his identity. It remains unclear whether he is armed, and officials have warned the public that he may be dangerous.

Local police responded to the scene shortly after the crash, which left the metal gate damaged. Images from the site showed a white sedan with its door ajar near the entrance booth. The FBI is working with federal prosecutors to prepare charges as the manhunt continues.
