 Four people have died after a car was swept away at an overflowing bridge in the Makotopong River near Sebayeng. Police recovered the bodies after a blue Renault Kwid carrying five occupants was pulled into the river during heavy water flow on Sunday morning, 8 March 2026. One passenger escaped from the vehicle and alerted police and emergency services. Police say the car was travelling along the Madiga–Makotopong gravel road when it overturned at the flooded bridge and was dragged into the river. The Provincial Search and Rescue team recovered the first body on Sunday. The victim was identified as Lebapa Petrus Mochitele, 27, from Madiga Village. EMS personnel declared him dead at the scene. Search operations resumed on Monday with the SAPS Water Wing Unit, EMS Search and Rescue, the Fire and Rescue Department, and an EMS helicopter. KANO POLICE COMMAND RECOVERS STOLEN TOYOTA HILUX MOTOR VEHICLE, ARRESTS SUSPECT


The Kano State Police Command is pleased to announce the successful recovery of a stolen vehicle and the arrest of a suspect in connection with the crime. This achievement is a result of the Command's proactive measures and relentless efforts to combat crime and ensure the safety of lives and property in the State.


2.  On 29th September 2025, a report was received from the owner of a Toyota Hilux vehicle with registration number GWA 998 AR, which had been stolen from Ikeja Road, Fagge LGA, Kano State. The Police operatives attached to the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) swung into action and, through intelligence-led technical operation along Airport Road, Nassarawa LGA, Kano State, arrested one Adama Hassan, a 35-year-old female suspect of Deba LGA,  Gombe State, on 6th October 2025, while attempting to conceal the stolen vehicle en route to Niger Republic.


3.  The suspect has confessed to receiving the vehicle from a male suspect from Lafiyan Lamurde LGA, Adamawa State, who is currently on the run. The Police are intensifying efforts to apprehend the suspect at and recover more exhibits.


4.  The Kano State Police Command commends the efforts of the officers involved in this operation and appreciates the support of the public in providing valuable information that led to this achievement.
