 Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Dieperink was arrested in April by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom following a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said officers responded on April 9 to a report of sexual assault at an address in Croydon and arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of the offence. Police later said that after reviewing available evidence, including CCTV footage and digital devices, the investigation had concluded that “the evidential threshold had not been met” and no further action would be taken.  African Union Hails South Africa’s Historic G20 Presidency


 The African Union Commission (AUC) has extended warm congratulations to the Republic of South Africa as it assumes the rotating presidency of the G20 and prepares to host the group’s summit on African soil for the first time.


In a statement released the AU Commission praised South Africa’s growing stature in global governance and its steadfast advocacy for the priorities of the Global South.


 “As current G20 Chair, South Africa has demonstrated exceptional leadership in advancing sustainable development and inclusive global governance,” the Commission said.


The AUC highlighted South Africa’s vibrant democracy, rooted in a Constitution that enshrines equality, human rights, and the rule of law—values it described as fully aligned with the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.


Celebrating the country’s rich diversity, the Commission noted that South Africans of many races, cultures, languages, and faiths live together in unity, making inclusivity “a source of national strength and global admiration.”


The African Union urged international partners to engage with South Africa and the broader continent based on mutual respect and constructive cooperation, reinforcing Africa’s vital role in fostering global peace, development, and prosperity.
