Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Dieperink was arrested in April by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom following a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said officers responded on April 9 to a report of sexual assault at an address in Croydon and arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of the offence. Police later said that after reviewing available evidence, including CCTV footage and digital devices, the investigation had concluded that “the evidential threshold had not been met” and no further action would be taken.   AKWA IBOM ASSEMBLY BLOCKS MOVE TO BAN DOG MEAT

2nd December, 2025

The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has dismissed a motion from one of its members aimed at halting the consumption of dog meat in the state, sparking debates over culture, tradition, and public health.

AKWA IBOM RESIDENTS BLAST LAWMAKER FOR TRYING TO STOP DOG-MEAT EATING

Many Akwa Ibom residents have reacted sharply online after the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly rejected a motion to ban the eating and selling of dog meat on Tuesday, 2 December 2025. The motion was raised by Hon. Uduak Ekpoufot, who represents Etinan State Constituency, but it collapsed immediately because no other member supported it.

The rejection quickly sparked comments across social media, with many residents openly criticising the lawmaker.

Ekikere Effiong wrote “As How Na, we did not send him to make laws that oppose the things we like.”

Otuekong Dan wrote, “Speaker abeg Etinan lawmaker leg over. He forgot that Speaker loves dog meat more than any other meat.”

Saviour Umana added, “Mbok, nothing should happen to our dog meat.”

Ubong Edem Ukor commented, “We the good people of Etinan no send am this one o!”

Iniobong Isonguyo questioned the priorities of the House, saying, “It’s like you people don’t have anything important to discuss. Why is dog meat on the floor of the House of Assembly?”

Joel Effiong joked that, “Etinan will forgive him as a first-timer. But if he had mentioned periwinkle, signatures would have been ready for his recall.”

Mallow Akpan wrote, “This is very funny from a House member. How will this bill help his people?”

Prince Unyime Innocent asked, “Was that a joke? Almighty dog meat?”

Ini-Idara Bisola Ibans teased, “Maybe someone ate his security dog.”

Jolly O. Edem said, “No support from any member cracked me up. Members wey dey run 404?”

Kufre Ita Etuk added, “Hmm! AKHA don turn UK parliament. Good to know we have a pet activist now. Smart move, but majority carries the vote sha.”

However, not everyone dismissed the lawmaker’s worries.

Ifiok Itiaba noted that his concerns were valid, explaining that dog breeders often use antibiotics, which can later affect people who eat the meat. He also cited health risks such as high sodium levels and mentioned that South Korea recently passed a law to ban the dog-meat industry from 2027.

House Rejects Motion

Earlier in the day, the House of Assembly had turned down Hon. Ekpoufot’s motion to stop dog-meat consumption and sale in the state. He argued that dogs are often killed in cruel ways and that the meat is sometimes prepared in unsafe conditions. He also warned that eating badly handled dog meat can expose people to diseases such as rabies, salmonella and other parasites.

But because the motion had no seconder — a basic requirement of House procedure — it failed immediately and was declared rejected by the Speaker.

For now, Akwa Ibom State will continue with its current practice regarding dog-meat consumption, even though the motion’s sponsor insists the state needs better public-health standards and more humane treatment of animals.
