 Court Jails Two for N14.8m Fraud in Maiduguri Justice B.T Zannah of the Borno State High Court sitting in Maiduguri, on Monday, July 13, 2026 convicted and sentenced two to three years imprisonment. The convicts are: Babagana Bukar and Hauwa Chabri.  The convicts were arraigned on Monday, July 13, 2026 by the Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on a separate one -count charge for the offence of criminal misappropriation to the tune of N14,800,000.00 (Fourteen  Million, Eight Hundred Thousand Naira). The charge against Bukar reads: "That you, Babagana Bukar sometimes in 2025 at Maiduguri, Borno State within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, dishonestly misappropriated and converted to your own use the aggregate sum of N8,800,000.00 (Eight Million, Eight Hundred Thousand Naira)  money belonging to Bunu Gambo Liman, being amount given to you through Babakura Umar and Bello Adamu for the supplies of 100 bags of IRS...

 GOV. ALIA SETS UP COMMITTEE TO RESOLVE EDUCATION MINISTRY, EXAM BOARD OVERLAP

The Benue State Government has constituted a committee to address reported overlaps in functions between the Ministry of Education and Knowledge Management and the Benue State Quality Assurance and Examination Board, particularly over the clearance of candidates for the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examinations (SSCE).


The move follows concerns raised by education stakeholders over duplicated responsibilities between the two bodies, which they warned could affect the smooth conduct of the forthcoming examinations.


In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Education and Knowledge Management, Dr Adamu Margaret Ijaguwa, it was disclosed that Governor Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia personally intervened and directed the Chief of Staff to convene a meeting of key stakeholders, which was successfully held on Tuesday.


After extensive deliberations, the meeting resolved that a committee be set up to review the law establishing the Benue State Quality Assurance and Examination Board, with a view to ensuring harmony with the existing Education Law.


The government also assured parents, school owners and the general public that principals should continue to present candidates at the Ministry of Education and Knowledge Management for clearance for the 2026 WASSCE, urging stakeholders to remain calm while the review process is underway.


“The Benue State Government is committed to ensuring that the education system operates efficiently and transparently,” the statement said.

It added that all critical stakeholders would be fully involved as the committee works to streamline operations and strengthen quality assurance in the education sector.


The ministry appreciated the cooperation and understanding of stakeholders, reiterating the state’s resolve to reposition education in Benue State.
