Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Dieperink was arrested in April by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom following a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London.  GUNMEN ABDUCT KWARA MONARCH, SON IN NEW YEAR’S EVE PALACE RAID

1st January, 2026

Gunmen suspected to be terrorists have abducted the monarch of Aafin Community, Oba S.Y. Olaonipekun, and one of his sons, Olaolu, a serving National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, during a late-night attack on the royal palace in Kwara State.

The incident occurred at about 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2026, in Aafin Ile-Ere, Ile-Ire district of Ifelodun Local Government Area. Witnesses said the assailants stormed the palace, firing sporadically to cause panic before forcing their way inside.

During the attack, the Olori, Mrs. Felicia Olaonipekun, sustained a gunshot wound to the arm but escaped abduction. She was later rushed to a hospital, where she is receiving treatment.

An eyewitness told Benue Info-pedia that the attackers appeared to have deliberately targeted the palace, overpowering the community’s two-man night vigilante team. At the time of the raid, no fewer than 10 family members and visitors were said to be inside the palace.

The abduction has further heightened security concerns in Kwara South, coming just weeks after the Ojibara of Bayagan Ile, Oba Kamilu Salami, regained freedom following the payment of a hefty ransom by members of his community.

Security agencies are yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
