Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are scheduled to testify before the House Oversight Committee next week as part of its investigation into Jeffrey Epstein, a committee spokeswoman confirmed. The depositions are set to take place in Chappaqua, New York, on Feb. 26 and 27. Neither Clinton has been accused of any wrongdoing.
Most depositions related to the Epstein probe have been conducted in Washington, D.C., though exceptions have been made. Billionaire Les Wexner testified at his Ohio estate, and Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell gave her deposition virtually from a federal prison in Texas. The Clintons were initially scheduled to testify last year, but their appearance was postponed due to scheduling conflicts. A standoff with House Republicans arose after they declined to appear for a rescheduled deposition earlier this month.
The committee subpoenaed the Clintons in August for testimony regarding Epstein, alongside several former Justice Department officials and FBI directors. After the committee advanced contempt resolutions against them, the Clintons agreed to comply. They proposed testifying via recorded depositions, with Hillary on Feb. 26 and Bill on Feb. 27. Committee Chair James Comer confirmed the depositions will follow standard rules, treating the Clintons the same as other witnesses.
The Justice Department has released millions of pages of Epstein-related files since the passage of the Epstein Files Transparency Act. The initial release included photos of Bill Clinton, who has said he traveled on Epstein’s plane for Clinton Foundation trips before Epstein faced criminal charges. Clinton has denied any wrongdoing, stating he severed ties with Epstein before allegations of sexual misconduct emerged in 2006. Hillary Clinton’s spokesperson has questioned her connection to the investigation.
