Senegal bans state officials from foreign travel to cut costs Senegal's government has suspended all non-essential foreign travel by ministers and top officials, warning of "extremely difficult" times ahead. The US-Israeli war on Iran has driven global oil prices higher, straining the budgets of many countries and pushing governments to take steps to mitigate the negative impacts. Addressing a youth event in the coastal town of Mbour on Friday evening, Senegal's Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko pointed to oil trading at about $115 a barrel, nearly twice the $62 per barrel assumed in Senegal's budget projections.  LAWMA CRACKS DOWN ON ILLEGAL DUMPING, SEIZES ILLEGAL CARTS IN TRADE FAIR–IYANA ISHASHI AXIS

The Waste Investigation Surveillance and Enforcement Department of LAWMA on Sunday, 22nd February 2026, carried out a coordinated compliance operation across the Abule Ado, Trade Fair Underbridge, Iyana Iba, Okokomaiko and Iyana Ishashi corridor. The exercise was aimed at dissuading waste burning, indiscriminate dumping, unauthorised street trading and the activities of illegal cart pushers undermining structured waste collection systems within the axis.

During the operation, surveillance teams monitored identified blackspots and enforced compliance measures in areas where environmental infractions were prevalent. Several illegal waste carts were seized, while affected trading points operating in contravention of environmental regulations were sealed with caution tapes to prevent further violations. The intervention forms part of ongoing efforts to restore environmental order and protect public health along major transit and residential corridors.

The Authority reiterated that sustained sanitation across the corridor requires strict adherence to approved waste disposal channels and the use of assigned Private Sector Participant (PSP) operators. Residents and traders were urged to desist from patronising cart pushers and to shun waste burning, as enforcement activities would continue to ensure full compliance with environmental laws across the state.
