Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Dieperink was arrested in April by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom following a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London.  Kaduna Ranks Second Nationwide In 2026 JAMB Registration

Kaduna State has recorded the second-highest number of candidates registered for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), with a total of 302,963 applicants.

The figure places Kaduna behind Lagos State, which recorded the highest number of registrations nationwide, highlighting Kaduna’s strong participation in the national entrance examination into tertiary institutions.

Education stakeholders say the large number of candidates reflects the growing interest in higher education among young people in the state, as well as the support of individuals and organizations committed to expanding educational opportunities.

Among those who contributed to the registration drive is Yusuf Hamisu Abubakar Mairago, Board Chairman of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), who sponsored the JAMB registration for hundreds of candidates across the state.

The initiative was carried out through the Mairago Vanguard for Tinubu and Uba Sani 2027, a group that mobilized support to assist students who might otherwise have been unable to afford the registration fees.

Observers note that such interventions by community leaders and philanthropists help reduce financial barriers to education, particularly for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The high number of candidates from Kaduna State in the 2026 UTME is seen as a reflection of the increasing awareness of the importance of education and the impact of collective efforts aimed at supporting students to pursue higher education.
