Kaduna businessman drags ex fiancee’s father to court, demands dowry refund A businessman, Nasiru Dayyabu, on Wednesday, dragged the father of his ex-fiance, Mallam Sani Direba, to Shari’a Court II sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna over N260,000 dowry. The complainant had joined Direba in the suit against two brothers demanding a refund of N250, 000 dowry and N10,000 introduction money he paid to marry his daughter. Represented by his counsel, Mr Sani Sunusi, the complainant told the court that he sent his people from Karaye, Kano State to Kaduna in 2025, to seek for the defendant’s daughter’s hand in marriage. “We paid the dowry and the introduction money (kudin gausuwa) and were waiting for them to set a date for the wedding,” he said. “Unfortunately, the lady’s father called to inform us that they have cancelled the marriage.” The counsel said the complainant had asked for the refund of his money since Sept. 2025 but all the efforts he made proved abortive.  ANSIEC Lifts Ban Ahead of 2027 Election

The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) has officially lifted the ban on political campaigns ahead of the 2026 Local Government elections in the state, paving the way for political parties to commence open campaigns across the 21 council areas.


The lift was announced on April 1, during a press briefing at the Commission's headquarters in Awka.


The decision aligns with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022, which stipulates that campaign must begin 150 days before election day and end 24 hours prior to voting.


The Commission specifically warned against the use of abusive, inflammatory or inciting language capable of provoking violence, stressing that the Commission would not hesitate to invoke relevant provisions of the law against offenders,whether individuals, candidates or political parties.


ANSIEC disclosed that a total of 22 candidates ate contesting for the chairmanship position across the 21 Local Government Area of the state.


Out of this number, 21 candidates are fielded by the APGA, while one candidate is from the YPP. In addition, the commission confirmed that 346 candidates have been cleared to contest for counciliorship seats across various ward.
