 Senator Sunday Karimi has raised concerns over the growing incidence of kidnapping and banditry in Kogi State, describing abductions as a daily occurrence in the state. Karimi made the remarks on Wednesday during plenary while contributing to a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by Senator Abdulfatai Buhari on the recent abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Ogbomoso. The lawmaker said kidnapping and banditry have become major security challenges threatening the stability of the country, stressing that responsibility for addressing the menace should not rest solely on the Federal Government. According to him, bandits invaded Ayedun Bunu, a community in Kogi West Senatorial District, in the early hours of Monday and abducted 28 residents.  EASTER: LAWMA INTENSIFIES OPERATIONS, URGES PROPER WASTE DISPOSAL TO PREVENT FLOODING



The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has intensified operational activities across the state ahead of the Easter celebrations as it calls on residents to adopt proper waste disposal practices to sustain environmental cleanliness, and prevent flooding.


The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin made this known at the Authority’s headquarters on Thursday.


 He said that the Authority had strengthened waste evacuation arrangements across the metropolis, with additional monitoring and operational support to ensure prompt service delivery during the festive period.


He noted that festive seasons typically witness increased waste generation, making it necessary for both service providers and residents to play their respective roles in maintaining a clean environment.


Dr. Gbadegesin urged residents to embrace simple waste reduction habits such as avoiding unnecessary purchases, reusing materials where possible, and separating recyclable items from general waste.


He explained that LAWMA had also positioned personnel and equipment at critical locations such as markets, motor parks, and high-traffic commercial areas to ensure effective waste collection throughout the period.


He added that the Authority was working closely with licensed Private Sector Participant (PSP) operators to sustain regular domestic waste evacuation and respond promptly to service gaps where necessary.


He further advised residents to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainage channels, road medians, and open spaces, warning that such practices could obstruct free flow of storm water as the rainy season approaches.


According to him, maintaining a clean environment is a shared responsibility requiring cooperation between government, service providers, and residents.


Dr. Gbadegesin reassured Lagosians of LAWMA’s continued commitment to improving service delivery through operational efficiency, infrastructure upgrades, and sustained public enlightenment.


He encouraged residents to report waste management issues through LAWMA’s customer care line 07080601020 and social media handles for prompt attention.
