 Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Dieperink was arrested in April by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom following a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said officers responded on April 9 to a report of sexual assault at an address in Croydon and arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of the offence. Police later said that after reviewing available evidence, including CCTV footage and digital devices, the investigation had concluded that “the evidential threshold had not been met” and no further action would be taken.  PRESIDENT TINUBU  CONGRATULATES PROFESSOR EMERITUS ABIOLA ODEJIDE ON HER 80TH BIRTHDAY


President Bola Tinubu has extended his best wishes to Professor Emeritus Abiola Odejide on her 80th birthday, commending her remarkable achievements, scholarship, and service to the nation.


Prof Abiola Odejide is the first female Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of the University of Ibadan between 2004 and 2006 and the first Professor of Children’s Literature in Nigeria. She is a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Letters. 


A statement by Bayo Onanuga Special Adviser to the President, Information and Strategy, indicates  that President Tinubu acknowledges Emeritus Professor  Odejide’s outstanding contributions to academia, particularly in English and Literary Studies, where she has distinguished herself as a scholar of global repute.

While also extolling her pioneering role in advancing gender advocacy, cultural development, and educational excellence President Tinubu notes that 

Professor Odejide's work in Communication and Language Arts has shaped generations, and her advocacy for gender mainstreaming has left an indelible mark on the soul of our academic community.


"Her work reflects an enduring commitment to nation-building and the promotion of values that foster unity, progress, and enlightenment.


The President in expressing his belief that as a trailblazer and role model her legacy will continue to inspire women and young scholars across the country in pursuit of knowledge, leadership, and national development with courage and integrity. 


He wished her good health, peace, and fulfilment in the years ahead.
