The Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has implemented necessary measures for the inoculation of its 1,600 intending pilgrims participating in the 2026 Hajj exercise in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This was disclosed by the Board Secretary, Mr. AbdulHakeem Ajomagberin, in a statement released on Thursday.
In a letter addressed to the Director, Port Health Services (Federal Ministry of Health) in Ikeja, Lagos, Ajomagberin said that the arrangement is to ensure effective participation of pilgrims and smooth coordination of the exercise in line with public health requirements.
While revealing that pilgrims would be administered with meningitis, oral polio, yellow fever and influenza vaccines during the exercise, he sought the cooperation and necessary support of the officials of the Port Health Services towards the successful conduct of the important exercise.
The inoculation, which has been scheduled to be held on a local government basis, is expected to begin on Monday, April 20 and end on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at the Shamsi Adisa Thomas (SAT) Mosque Hall, First Secretariat, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos.
According to the schedule released by the Board, intending pilgrims from Agege and Somolu LGAs will kickstart the exercise on April 20, followed by Ajeromi, Apapa and Ojo LGAs on April 21, while Alimosho, Amuwo-Odofin and Badagry will have theirs on April 22, 2026.
Thursday, April 23, is scheduled for intending pilgrims from Ikeja, Oshodi-Isolo, Mushin, and Surulere LGAs. Ikorodu, Eti-Osa, Kosofe, and Epe would be attended to on April 27, while Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland, JAIZ, NIA and Royal intending pilgrims would be inoculated on April 28, 2026. The exercise will be concluded on April 29 with the inoculation of government officials at the same venue.
The Board Secretary urged every intending pilgrim performing the holy pilgrimage through the State to ensure that they comply and make themselves available for the inoculation as scheduled. He warned that in view of the seriousness attached to the inoculation by the Saudi Arabian authorities and NAHCON, any intending pilgrim who refused to be inoculated would not be allowed to proceed with the spiritual journey, adding that the inoculation is in fulfilment of requirements for international travel.
Meanwhile, the Board has begun the weekend sensitisation lectures for its intending pilgrims in all the Local Government Areas (LGA) Secretariats of the State.
According to the Board Secretary, the lectures, which started on Saturday, April 4, 2026, are going on simultaneously every Saturday and Sunday throughout April. He added that while the State’s accredited Ulamah (Muslim clerics) have been fully mobilised to educate and orient the intending pilgrims with the necessary knowledge required for the spiritual exercise in the Kingdom, the Local Government Schedule Officers (Coordinators) are expected to coordinate activities at each local government area administratively.
He urged all intending pilgrims to attend the lectures regularly with a view to broadening their knowledge, stressing that they will gain a lot from the relevant knowledge and information to be shared by the Ulamah. He added that the lectures also provide the intending pilgrims with the opportunity of interacting with one another and establishing an everlasting mutual relationship and bonding that translates beyond the holy pilgrimage.
