Abia State Police Command Arrests Officers After Viral Harassment Video in Uturu

The Abia State Police Command has arrested several police officers after a viral video showed a commuter allegedly being harassed in Uturu on Saturday, May 9.

In a statement released by police spokesperson Maureen Chinaka, the officers were accused of intimidating a traveler for carrying three mobile phones and demanding proof of ownership for each device.

Following the circulation of the video online, authorities launched an investigation, contacted the complainant, and identified the officers involved.

According to the command, all the implicated personnel have now been traced and taken into custody.

The Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to handle the case and begin formal investigations alongside disciplinary procedures.

The command also assured the public that updates would be provided regarding the final outcome of the disciplinary process.

CP Isa further reiterated the command’s commitment to professionalism, discipline, and respect for human rights.

He warned that misconduct, abuse of power, or any form of impunity by officers would attract strict punishment in line with the directives of the Inspector General of Police aimed at promoting a more accountable and citizen-friendly police force.
