  Two arrested over k!lling of popular Kano Social Media political commentator The police in Kano State says two persons have been arrested in connection with the gruesome murder of a popular political commentator, Ibrahim Khalil Danshagamu. Ibrahim, who is known on social media for his strong views on politics and religion in Nigeria, was found dead with his throat slit in his residence in Gaida Quarters, Kumbotso Local Government Area, on Monday, September 9.  Confirming the incident to newsmen, the command’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the command received a distress call about the incident on Monday at about 11:30pm.  “Operatives of the Kumbotso Police Division promptly responded to the scene and rushed the victim to Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital, Kano, where he was confirmed de@d on arrival by a medical doctor,” the statement said The police said the Kumbotso Divisional Police Officer have arrested the two suspects in connection with the unfor...

All My Children actor Paul Avery and wife die in New Jersey house fire

Actor Paul Avery, best known for his 12-year role as the bartender Hughie on the soap opera "All My Children," died alongside his wife, Sheila Garry Avery, in a New Jersey house fire. He was 81 years old.

Emergency responders arrived at the couple's Mohican Road home in Blairstown to find the structure entirely engulfed in flames. The couple was found unconscious inside the residence and passed away shortly thereafter.

The Averys were long-time, highly respected members of the Blairstown community. Beyond his acting career, Paul Avery served as a local committeeman and co-founded a local news publication. In recent years, he dedicated much of his time to caring for his ailing wife.

In addition to his decade-long run on "All My Children," Avery's television and film credits included appearances on "Three's Company," "Soap," "Tales from the Darkside," and an uncredited role as an on-screen cameraman in the 1978 "Superman" movie.

An investigation into the cause of the fatal fire remains active. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
