The Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, has reaffirmed the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to advancing tourism, arts, entertainment and cultural development in line with the THEMES+ Agenda of the administration of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.
The Commissioner made this known during the 2026 Annual Ministerial Press Briefing, commemorating the third year of Governor Sanwo-Olu's second term in office, held recently at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa, Ikeja.
In her address, Mrs. Benson-Awoyinka stated that the Ministry has continued to strategically position Lagos as the tourism and entertainment capital of Africa through innovative programmes, strategic partnerships, cultural initiatives, festivals, and infrastructural development aimed at strengthening the state’s creative economy and attracting both local and international visitors.
She noted that the Ministry recorded remarkable achievements across key sectors, including tourism promotion, cultural preservation, creative industry development, stakeholder engagement and talent empowerment, while emphasising the State Government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for creatives, investors, tourism practitioners and cultural stakeholders.
Highlighting some of the Ministry’s flagship programmes and activities within the period under review, the Commissioner referenced festivals, cultural exhibitions, heritage preservation initiatives, entertainment collaborations, youth-focused creative programmes and capacity-building initiatives designed to empower operators within the tourism and creative ecosystem.
According to her, the Ministry also intensified efforts towards promoting community-based tourism, preserving the rich cultural heritage of Lagos State and showcasing the State’s unique cultural identity to the global community.
Mrs. Benson-Awoyinka further stressed that every initiative implemented by the Ministry reflects its dedication to strengthening the tourism, hospitality, entertainment and creative sectors as major contributors to the socio-economic development of Lagos State.
She reiterated the Ministry’s resolve to continue unlocking new opportunities within the sectors to position Lagos as a global benchmark for cultural tourism, entertainment and creative industry excellence.
The Commissioner expressed profound appreciation to Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for his visionary leadership, continuous support and unwavering commitment to the growth and development of tourism, arts and culture in Lagos State.
She also acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the Permanent Secretary, Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila, the management and staff of the Ministry, agencies under the Ministry, as well as stakeholders and development partners within and outside the country for their sustained collaboration and support towards the advancement of the sector.
Mrs. Benson-Awoyinka assured residents, investors and stakeholders that the Ministry would continue to implement impactful policies and programmes that would further consolidate Lagos State’s position as Africa’s foremost tourism, entertainment and cultural destination.
