North Carolina police officer has been fired after a video of him repeatedly punching a detained woman in the face, went viral.

Brad Fraser, the Chief of Police for Shelby, North Carolina, held a press conference on Saturday, May 30th.

The conference was held to address the growing public concern regarding the brutal arrest of 34-year-old, Cherrie Moore.

In the time since her arrest, a shocking video captured by a doorbell camera has been released. In the video, you see Shelby PD officer, Karson Hyder, suddenly slam Cherrie to the ground. The video then shows Karson punching Cherrie 12 times in the face and head while she is on the ground and defenseless.

Officers were in the area after receiving reports of a suspicious person. While investigating, officers encountered Cherrie, who was reportedly not acting suspicious. However, she was detained on a warrant for breaking and entering.

After receiving a beating at the hands of officer Hyder, who is over a foot taller than Cherrie, she was also charged with resisting a public officer and assault on a government official. Those charges are expected to change.

Cherrie Moore had her bond set at $10,000 and is scheduled to appear in court on June 5th.

Following the arrest, the doorbell video was released and has gone viral sparking outrage in the community. Within hours of its release, crowds had gathered outside of the police department and downtown Shelby, demanding accountability. Cherrie was not seen resisting or assaulting any officer. Rather, she was seen being punched until nearly unconscious until another officer stopped officer Hyder from beating her.

During Saturday's press conference, Chief Fraser announced that Officer Hyder had been fired from his position. He strongly condemned the officer's actions.

Hyder was initially put on administrative leave while the incident was reviewed, but with mounting pressure and with clear evidence of his excessive and violent behavior, authorities took the extra steps and quickly terminated officer Hyder.

Chief Fraser went on record saying " First, I want to be clear that the inappropriate use of force is unacceptable and will not be tolerated by me, the Shelby Police Department, or the city of Shelby."

The Cleveland County Sheriff's Department even put out a statement condemning officer Hyder. They were not even on the scene, they were upset with the officer's actions.

The incident is now being reviewed by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation to determine whether criminal charges against officer Hyder should be filed.

Cherrie's family has stated that she is suffering from a severely broken nose and trauma after the beating. They are pressing charges against the officer.
