Taylor Swift paid more than $160,000 to the city of New York for a permit connected to her high-profile wedding celebration at Madison Square Garden, covering the cost of city services required for the event.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani said the permit fee covered the city’s response, including resources needed to manage security and traffic around the venue.
The New York Police Department assigned dozens of officers to the area as part of the security operation. The department also announced temporary street closures and transportation access changes around Madison Square Garden and nearby areas ahead of the celebration.
The event required additional city planning due to the large number of guests and public attention surrounding the couple. Officials said the permit was finalized shortly before the wedding took place.
Before the ceremony, Swift and Travis Kelce donated $26 million to several charitable organizations. One of the groups receiving support was focused on helping families of police officers and firefighters who died in the line of duty.
The couple married in a July 3 ceremony at Madison Square Garden, with actor and comedian Adam Sandler officiating. The celebration reportedly included more than 1,000 guests.
Swift’s brother Austin served as her “man of honor,” while Kelce’s brother Jason was his best man. They were the only members of the wedding party.
The star-studded guest list included actors Hugh Grant, Ethan Hawke and Jason Sudeikis, singer Benson Boone, soccer legend Abby Wambach, and NFL players Chris Jones and Cooper Kupp, who were seen arriving in formal attire for the festivities.
