A TEXAS WOMAN WAS ORDERED TO STOP WALKING AWAY FROM THE POLICE. INSTEAD, SHE STRANGLED A KITTEN UNTIL ITS NECK WAS BROKEN. AUTHORITIES STEPPED IN TO END ITS SUFFERING. (PHOTO).

A Texas woman was ordered to stop walking away from the police. Instead, she strangled a kitten until its neck was broken. Authorities stepped in to end its suffering.

The sad events in this story took place in Beaumont, Texas, on September 10th.

On that Thursday evening, officers with the Beaumont Police Department were called to a domestic situation that ended in a physical struggle to save a kitten's life.

Sadly, the officers attempts were unsuccessful.

The events began when 45-year-old Heather Broussard's boyfriend contacted authorities for a welfare check. He reported that Heather was possibly a danger to herself.  He told dispatchers that he was following behind her as she walked down Binger Road.

An officer was dispatched and soon saw Heather walking down the road. The officer began trying to get Heather's attention.  Heather refused to acknowledge him and continued walking. He could see that Heather was carrying something.

It was at this point that the officer noticed Heather was holding a small kitten.  He was shocked and sickened by the way that Heather was handling the kitten.

According to reports, Heather was  holding the kitten by its neck. She was squeezing so tightly that the kittens eyes were bulging out, and its tongue was hanging out.

The officer immediately began trying to intervene on the cat's behalf. Heather violently resisted, jerking away, while continuing to severly mistreat the kitten.

The officer had enough and took Heather to the ground where she continued to struggle against him.

He eventually cuffed her up and put her in his squad car. He then called animal control to assess the kitten.

After arriving on scene, the Animal Control Officer determined the kitten had suffered a broken neck and said they had to put the tiny kitten to sleep.

Heather Broussard was booked into Jefferson County Jail on felony crue/ty to a non-livestock animal, evading arrest and resisting arrest. The crue/ty to non-livestock animal is a third-degree felony charge.

She was given a $15,000 bond. We do hope she receives the help she needs.
