Hoda Kotb details how Sandra Bullock inspired her adoption journey
Hoda Kotb’s latest Today interview carried a deeply personal note as she sat down with Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock to discuss Practical Magic 2. While the conversation began with the film, Kotb revealed how Bullock had profoundly shaped her own journey into motherhood.
She recalled feeling devastated after missing the window to have biological children, until she saw a report about Bullock adopting her son Louis. Realizing they were the same age, Kotb broke down in tears and reached out to Bullock, who encouraged her to pursue adoption.
That moment, Kotb said, “changed the course of my life,” leading her to adopt daughters Haley and Hope in 2017 and 2019.
Bullock, visibly moved by Kotb’s words, tried to hold back tears, while Kotb emphasized that families come together in many different ways. Kidman, herself an adoptive mother, joined in the conversation, highlighting the shared experiences of building families through adoption.
Kotb’s story underscored how Bullock’s openness inspired her to embrace motherhood, despite earlier doubts.
Kotb also touched on her co‑parenting relationship with ex‑fiancé Joel Schiffman. Though the couple split in 2022, they remain close for their daughters’ sake, reuniting for milestones like birthdays and holidays.
Most recently, they walked Haley and Hope to school together on their first day of fourth and second grade, sharing photos of the sweet family moment.
