 TROOPS ARREST SUSPECTED KIDNAPPER, RECOVER AK-47 RIFLE ALONG BENIN–SAPELE ROAD Troops of 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Operation WABAIZIGAN, have arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition during a targeted operation along the Benin–Sapele Road in Ikpoba-Okha LGA of Edo State. The suspect, identified as Olamide Oyeniyi, was arrested on 12 September 2026 at Obaretin Community by troops conducting operations to disrupt criminal activities and safeguard major transportation routes within the area. Items recovered from the suspect include one AK-47 rifle, one magazine and eight rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition. Other items recovered are one Tecno mobile phone, two bags, one torchlight, one music box and assorted charms. The suspect and recovered items are currently in troops’ custody for further investigation, while efforts are ongoing to establish his links to other criminal elements and determine his possible involvement in kidnapping and related activi...

 NIGERIA MOVES TO DEEPEN BILATERAL TIES WITH PARTNERS At BRICS SUMMIT IN INDIA; VP SHETTIMA TO ATTEND


As world leaders converge on New Delhi, India, for the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit, all is set for Nigeria to consolidate bilateral relations with key international partners, expand economic cooperation and advance its strategic interests.


A statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications ( Office of the Vice President ) Stanley Nkwocha indicates that the engagement will provide Nigeria with another platform to strengthen partnerships in trade and investment, energy, agriculture, solid minerals, technology, and innovation, while promoting greater cooperation among countries of the Global South.


To advance these objectives, Vice President Kashim Shettima will be in New Delhi to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the summit scheduled for this weekend in Bharat Mandapam.


It notes that India’s 2026 BRICS Chairship is anchored on the theme, “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability,” with deliberations expected to cover political and security cooperation, economic and financial partnerships, as well as cultural and people-to-people exchanges.


The statement further discloses that while in New Delhi, VP Shettima will join leaders of BRICS member and partner nations, alongside other invited dignitaries, at plenary and high-level sessions examining global economic growth, multilateral cooperation, and shared development priorities.


According to the statement, Senator Shettima will also hold bilateral engagements with leaders and senior officials of participating countries, with discussions expected to focus on opportunities for deeper economic and diplomatic cooperation with Nigeria.


Nigeria, a BRICS partner country since January 2025, is opening another channel for the country to deepen South-South cooperation and engage some of the world’s largest emerging economies on trade, investment, developm
