 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. LAGOS ENFORCES THE USE OF EKO REFRIGERATED MEAT VANS IN APPROVED ABATTOIRS TODAY.

        The operatives of the Lagos State Task Force today commenced the enforcement of the use of 'EKO Refrigerated Meat Vans' as the only authorised means of carrying processed meat in a hygienic way from approved slaughter houses and abattoirs to designated meat markets within the State.
Deputy Superintendent of Police and Acting Chairman of the Agency, Mr. Wilson Alaba, who led the enforcement operations at Oko-Oba Abattoir Markets, Agege, disclosed that many motorcycles, rickety vehicles and other unauthorised means of carrying processed meat were dislodged within the market.
He disclosed further that the enforcement operations became necessary to ensure that the reformation of the Red Meat and Meat Hygiene Law is enforced and that the meat consumed in Lagos is processed and transported in a wholesome and clean manner.
While noting that the enforcement teams were deployed to different approved abattoirs across the State, Alaba, however, enjoined members of the Butchers Association of Oko-Oba and other relevant stakeholders to immediately comply as anybody caught using unauthorised means of carrying processed meat within the State would be charged to court.
According to the Vice President Refrigerated Van (Agege) Cooperative Multipurpose Society Limited (Operator of Eko Meat Van), Alhaji Niniola Ramonu, the measures adopted by the State Government was to make sure that well-preserved processed meat is sold to members of the public.
He disclosed that using Eko Refrigerated Meat Vans to convey processed meat from approved slaughter houses and abattoirs would prevent the meat from being contaminated before getting to designated markets across the State.
Alhaji Kabiru Mohammed, who is also a member of the Butchers Association at Oko-Oba Abattoir Market, commended the government for protecting lives of the citizenry with the enforcement of the use of Eko Refrigerated Meat Vans.
He stated that accidents of motorcycles carrying meat on bridges and highways would now be a thing of the past.Recall that the Lagos State Government on Monday, July 17th, 2017 banned the use nylon bags, rickety vehicles and motorcycles for conveying meat to various designated markets across the State.
