 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. State Government Commences Work on Awka Erosion Control Project....

The Anambra State Government has commenced work on the Awka erosion control project.

Speaking to newsmen at Ekwueme Square, Awka, Engr. Ifeanyi Okoma, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure said that the visit was to officially handover the project documents to the contractor IDC Construction Ltd.

According to him, on behalf of Prof. Charles Soludo, we are handing over this site to you and we want to state here that the reclamation is very important to the State government.

Engr. Okoma said, "Anambra State is the erosion capital of Nigeria and land is one of the little resources we have and so it is like a diamond to us and this diamond is being taken over by the agents of nature. 

"The government led by Prof. Charles Soludo decided that we shall reclaim our land and if we don't do it now, definitely this whole places will be gone. We felt that your company can do this job and we hope that you will not disappoint us."

The commissioner said that the contractor is expected to handover the site in six months time.

On his part, the project Engineer for IDC Construction Ltd, Engr.Youssef Zchaib said that they had commenced the project by bringing their equipment to site. 

He assured that they will work hard to deliver the project according to schedule. (MOI)
