 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. LASG DIVERTS TRAFFIC ON EKO BRIDGE BETWEEN COSTAIN, ALAKA DESCENT.(PHOTO).#PRESS RELEASE


The Lagos State Government has announced the diversion of traffic between Costain and Alaka descent due to the need to carry out emergency repairs on some parts of the Eko Bridge.

A statement signed by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi said these repairs are necessary to avoid the complete vandalisation and theft of the expansion joint as well as the replacement of missing parts and the recasting of the transition concrete around the expansion joint.
According to him, the section of the Bridge will be closed to traffic from 8 a.m on Saturday, 4th November and will be reopened to traffic by 4 am on Monday 6th November, 2023, advising motorists plying the area to use the Costain Ramp to link Alaka through the Costain Roundabout during the period.

While assuring that the bridge will be reopened as planned, Osiyemi added that adequate traffic and security personnel will be deployed to the construction zones and the alternative routes, urging motorists to cooperate with traffic officers, exercise patience and observe safety measures.
