 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. MAN KILLS FRIEND WITH CYLINDER AFTER SMOKING COLORADO IN ONDO.(PHOTO).


 Man kills friend with cylinder after smoking colorado in Ondo. 


The police in Ondo state have arraigned a 24-year-old man identified as Peter Adebayo for allegedly killing his friend, Lekan Raji, with a cooking gas cylinder after consuming hard substances known as colorado.

 

Police prosecutor, Inspector Taiwo Oniyere, told the Akure Magistrate court that the defendant committed the offence on February 23, 2024, at Ireakari Street, Akure.  Adebayo was said to have hit Lekan on the head with the cylinder for querying his behaviour.

 

“The deceased came home on that day and was not happy with the way the defendant was misbehaving. So, he challenged him. But the defendant who was under the influence of ‘Colorado’,  hit the deceased with the cylinder. So, he fell and died.” the police prosecutor said

 

The offence, according to the charge, contravenes Sections 316 and 319 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 37 Vol. 1 of Ondo State 2006.

 

Plea of the defendant was not taken and the prosecutor prayed the court to remand the defendant at the Olokuta Correctional Centre, Akure, pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).


The presiding Magistrate, T. O. Olusola-Olujobi ordered the remand of the defendant at the Olokota Correctional Centre and adjourned the case to March 19, 2024.
