Original Story-

Nationwide manhunt for man who took the life of an off duty correctional officer for intervening in domestic dispute.

At approximately 1:20 a.m. this morning in Jacksonville, Florida, the Sheriff's office were contacted about a violent domestic dispute that had fatal consequences.

According to reports the incident took place at a Love's truckstop near Jacksonville International Airport. The initial conflict involved a man and woman in a black Mustang. During the dispute the man exited the vehicle and placed a handgun on the hood. He then yanked the female out and slammed her against the car before throwing her to the ground.

It was at this point Brad McNew (a 24 year veteran of Jacksonville Sheriff's Office) saw what was occurring and attempted to intervene. McNew asked the woman "if she was alright". The male suspect approached McNew and said 'it was family business".

The dispute continued between the man and woman with McNew attempting to de-escalate. The man can be seen pointing his weapon at McNew before the woman restrains him.

The couple got back into the black Mustang with the woman driving. As they drove away the male leaned out the window and shot McNew multiple times.

Brad McNew was rushed to a nearby hospital where he passed away from his injuries.

A nationwide manhunt has now been instituted for the suspect. He was last seen heading north in the black Mustang.  The vehicle reportedly has North Carolina plate # RHL4285.

Police say if you see this couple or the vehicle call 911 immediately. Do not approach them. The man is considered extremely dangerous.

Our thoughts are with the family of Brad McNew, a man who lost his life trying to do the right thing.
