Kaduna businessman drags ex fiancee’s father to court, demands dowry refund A businessman, Nasiru Dayyabu, on Wednesday, dragged the father of his ex-fiance, Mallam Sani Direba, to Shari’a Court II sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna over N260,000 dowry. The complainant had joined Direba in the suit against two brothers demanding a refund of N250, 000 dowry and N10,000 introduction money he paid to marry his daughter. Represented by his counsel, Mr Sani Sunusi, the complainant told the court that he sent his people from Karaye, Kano State to Kaduna in 2025, to seek for the defendant’s daughter’s hand in marriage. “We paid the dowry and the introduction money (kudin gausuwa) and were waiting for them to set a date for the wedding,” he said. “Unfortunately, the lady’s father called to inform us that they have cancelled the marriage.” The counsel said the complainant had asked for the refund of his money since Sept. 2025 but all the efforts he made proved abortive.  ADC Demands Cancellation of Yobe LG Elections Over Alleged Irregularities


The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Yobe State has called for the annulment of the June 2024 local government elections conducted by the State Independent Electoral Commission (YSIEC) due to alleged irregularities.


At a press briefing in Damaturu, the ADC’s Yobe State Chairman, Umar Kalli Alhaji, accused the electoral commission of preventing the party from participating in the election. He claimed that the commission failed to adhere to the 2022 Electoral Act, which requires political parties to be notified six months in advance of an election.


Alhaji further alleged that the ADC was not informed by the YSIEC about the election in time to submit candidates for chairmanship and councillorship positions, violating the provisions of the Electoral Act.


“We want the public to know that our case with YSIEC is currently pending in the high court, challenging the legitimacy of the election process in Yobe State,” Alhaji said.


In response, YSIEC Chairman Mamman Mohammad denied any knowledge of a court case against the commission. He explained that the election date had been extended by two weeks, but no complaints or indications of the ADC’s unwillingness to participate were received during that period.


In the June 2024 local government elections, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yobe State won all 17 local government chairmanship seats and all 178 councillorship positions.
