Bureau Calls for Collaboration from States, Private Sector in Strengthening Anti-Corruption Efforts

The Bureau of Public Service Reforms has urged state governments and the private sector to play a proactive role in enhancing Nigeriaā€™s fight against corruption.

This call was made during a validation workshop on the Implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS), which took place on Monday in Abuja.

In his opening address, the Director-General of the Bureau, Mr. Dasuki Arabi, emphasized the importance of collaboration among multiple stakeholders for the effective implementation of the NACS.

Arabi acknowledged the contributions of various groups, including the Federal Government, Anti-Corruption Agencies, Civil Society Organizations, and international partners, in supporting the ongoing battle against corruption.

According to a statement from Aliyu Umar, the Bureau's Head of Strategic Communications, the workshop aimed to assess the progress of the anti-corruption strategy, while also exploring ways to enhance its impact on governance and public service delivery.

"The success of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy hinges on the collective involvement of all sectors, including state governments and the private sector. We must work together to strengthen institutions, enhance transparency, and foster accountability across all levels of governance," Arabi said.

The Director-General further highlighted that the Bureau, in partnership with a private consultant, had conducted a research survey to evaluate the strategyā€™s effectiveness and offer actionable recommendations for further strengthening anti-corruption measures across Nigeria.

Arabi reaffirmed the Bureauā€™s commitment to building capacity at both federal and state levels. He noted that, through its governance reform initiatives, the Bureau is working closely with state governments to replicate successful reforms from the federal level, particularly in areas such as public financial management and the implementation of the National Ethics and Integrity Policy.

The Director-General also underscored the critical role of the private sector in ensuring the success of anti-corruption initiatives. He called for increased collaboration with businesses to promote a culture of integrity and transparency within both public and private institutions.

Arabi urged all workshop participants to engage actively, share their perspectives, and collaborate towards strengthening Nigeriaā€™s anti-corruption framework. He concluded by stressing that the ultimate success of the NACS would depend on the commitment of all stakeholders in addressing corruption, improving governance, and fostering sustainable economic growth.
