 Maduro, Celia Flores allowed to use Venezuelan government funds for attorneys, ending legal standoff Former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Celia Flores will be allowed to use funds from the Venezuelan government to pay their attorneys, resolving a monthlong dispute over legal financing under U.S. sanctions. In a joint filing submitted Friday night, federal prosecutors and defense attorneys informed the court that the Department of the Treasury would amend a sanctions license to permit payments to the couple’s lawyers without violating existing restrictions. The arrangement includes strict conditions, including that any funds used must have become available after March 5, 2026, and cannot come from restricted foreign government deposit accounts. Prosecutors said the updated authorization resolves the funding dispute that had prompted the defense to seek dismissal of the case, and the defense has since withdrawn those motions without prejudice.  NSCDC Arrests Eight Suspected Vandals in Abuja


The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, has arrested eight individuals suspected of vandalizing public infrastructure across various areas in Abuja. The arrests are part of an ongoing operation aimed at addressing vandalism in the FCT.


NSCDC Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, revealed on Wednesday that the suspects were apprehended through a coordinated effort by the NSCDC’s covert operatives and the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure Tactical Team, who have been monitoring the city.


The first group of four suspects was arrested early Saturday at Idu Layout CITEC, found in possession of stolen solar panel poles. The suspects, identified as Sani Garba, Umar Aminu, Adekunle Oluwatoyin Eniola, and Emmanuel John, come from Kano, Osun, and Enugu states, respectively.


The second group of four suspects was arrested Sunday morning along the Bannex-Gishiri axis while attempting to transport five stolen streetlight poles. These suspects—Hosea Christopher, Ali Musa, John Sylvester, and Idris Suleiman—are from Kaduna and Katsina states.


The recovered items include five large streetlight poles, one solar panel pole, and over forty iron rods.


Odumosu expressed concern over the rising destruction of public infrastructure and reiterated the NSCDC's commitment to tackling the issue. He warned vandals to stay away from the FCT, stating that the corps would not relent in protecting public assets.


The suspects are under investigation and will face legal charges once completed.
