The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun implementing some of the recommendations made by stakeholders following the 2023 general elections.

This announcement was made by INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, during a visit from the new European Union Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Gautier Mignot, in Abuja.

According to Yakubu, INEC has already started reviewing its planning tools, including the Strategic Plan and the Election Project Plan, to improve future elections.

Since the 2023 elections, the commission has received reports from numerous national and international observer groups, including the European Union Election Observation Mission (EU-EOM).

These stakeholders have made a total of 23 recommendations, with eight requiring action from INEC and 15 needing action from other stakeholders, including the executive, judiciary, legislature, civil society organisations, media, faith-based organisations, and political parties.

By implementing these recommendations, INEC aims to enhance the integrity and efficiency of Nigeria's electoral process.
