Yemen fighting pushes nearly 3,000 to Djibouti in less than a week: UN    Nearly 3,000 people have fled Yemen for Djibouti in less than a week as escalating violence drives growing displacement within the country and across its borders, the UN refugee agency said Friday. “Refugees continue to arrive by boat through Obock, Khor Angar, Moulhoule and Godoria after difficult journeys in small vessels,” UNHCR representative in Djibouti Sandrine Desamours told reporters in Geneva, Anadolu Agency reported. More than half of those crossing the Bab el-Mandeb Strait are women and children, while some families have been displaced for a second time after previously fleeing Yemen during the 2015 crisis and later returning. UNHCR is preparing for at least 10,000 new arrivals but warned that capacity is rapidly diminishing.  Amaechi Condemns Fubara’s Suspension, Calls Tinubu’s Action an Assault on Democracy


Former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu’s suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

In a statement on Wednesday, Amaechi denounced the move as unconstitutional and a violation of Nigeria’s democratic principles. He urged the National Assembly, state governors, and Nigerians to reject what he described as an “illegal power grab.”


Citing Section 188 of the Nigerian Constitution, Amaechi argued that a governor can only be removed through impeachment, not by presidential order. He also challenged Tinubu’s use of Section 305, stating that declaring a state of emergency does not grant the power to dissolve elected government structures.


Amaechi warned that Tinubu’s action has effectively suspended democracy in Rivers State and called on political stakeholders to resist what he termed an "audacious violation of the Constitution."


Commending governors who have opposed the move, he urged others to speak out, warning that failure to do so could set a dangerous precedent for Nigeria’s democracy.
