ECOWAS Calls for Dialogue Amid Escalating Tensions Between Algeria and Mali The West African organization called on Mali and Algeria to resort to dialogue and use regional and continental mechanisms to resolve disputes, Sputnik reported. Diplomatic tensions between Mali and Algeria escalated after Algerian armed forces shot down a Malian drone near the border town of Tin Zaouatine in late March. Algeria stated that the drone violated its sovereignty. Bamako, for its part, denieed any incursion into its neighbor's airspace. The incident prompted a series of political reactions, including the recall of the ambassadors of Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger from Algiers, as well as the closure of airspace between Algeria and Mali. Algeria is not a member of ECOWAS, and Mali withdrew from it at the end of January.

Leaked memos: Edo APC urges Okpebholo to redeploy Obaseki loyalists

Leaders of the All Progressives Congress in Edo State on Friday urged Governor Monday Okpebholo to consider redeploying suspected loyalists of his immediate predecessor, Godwin Obaseki, who are still working in the Government House.

Among other things, they warned that working closely with those workers could prove injurious to Okpebholoā€™s administration.

The Spokesman for the Edo APC Leaders, Momodu Adams, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja.

According to him, in the wake of the recent leak of official memos from the government house, the governor can no longer afford to leave sensitive documents and information in the care of certain staff.

Adam argued that the majority of the civil servants in the current administration are still tied to Obasekiā€™s apron.

He said, ā€œAPC leaders are worried about the development because some persons are leaking official documents in their possession to PDP leaders, especially Ogie and Asue Ighodalo, who are trying to upturn the victory of Governor Okpebholo at the Tribunal.

ā€œIf something urgent is not done, who knows what will happen next?

ā€œAbout 98 per cent of the staff who worked in Government House during Obasekiā€™s administration, including the protocol officers and those who serve tea, are still in Okpebholoā€™s administration. We are worried. People hide or sit on files meant for the Governor.

ā€œWe understand that media houses and journalists in Edo State are losing patience with Governor Okpebholoā€™s administration. When the media starts its war with the new administration, it will mess up everything.ā€
