Kaduna businessman drags ex fiancee’s father to court, demands dowry refund A businessman, Nasiru Dayyabu, on Wednesday, dragged the father of his ex-fiance, Mallam Sani Direba, to Shari’a Court II sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna over N260,000 dowry. The complainant had joined Direba in the suit against two brothers demanding a refund of N250, 000 dowry and N10,000 introduction money he paid to marry his daughter.  Calls for R71 Road Expansion Grow After Major Accident

Phalaborwa residents and commuters are calling for urgent upgrades to the R71 road between Gravelotte and Phalaborwa town, citing heavy traffic congestion and frequent accidents.

The latest incident, a six-car collision during the morning rush hour yesterday, has reignited concerns about the road's capacity to handle increasing traffic volumes. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported, but the crash caused significant delays.

Motorists and residents say the single-lane road struggles to accommodate peak-hour traffic, especially with the high number of trucks, taxis, and private vehicles using the route daily. Many believe that converting it into a double-lane road would improve traffic flow and reduce accidents.

“We sit in long traffic queues every morning, and the risk of accidents is increasing. It’s time for authorities to act before more lives are lost,” said one frustrated commuter.

Calls are mounting for the provincial government and SANRAL to prioritise the R71 for expansion. With Phalaborwa being a key economic hub due to its mining and tourism industries, residents argue that improved road infrastructure is essential for both safety and economic growth.

Authorities are yet to respond to the latest concerns, but pressure is building for action before another tragedy strikes.
