Yemen fighting pushes nearly 3,000 to Djibouti in less than a week: UN    Nearly 3,000 people have fled Yemen for Djibouti in less than a week as escalating violence drives growing displacement within the country and across its borders, the UN refugee agency said Friday. “Refugees continue to arrive by boat through Obock, Khor Angar, Moulhoule and Godoria after difficult journeys in small vessels,” UNHCR representative in Djibouti Sandrine Desamours told reporters in Geneva, Anadolu Agency reported. More than half of those crossing the Bab el-Mandeb Strait are women and children, while some families have been displaced for a second time after previously fleeing Yemen during the 2015 crisis and later returning. UNHCR is preparing for at least 10,000 new arrivals but warned that capacity is rapidly diminishing.  Senate Approves Restoration of Aniocha North II State Constituency


The Senate has approved the restoration of Aniocha North II State Constituency in Delta State, following a Supreme Court judgment in Suit No. SC/129/2019.


Lawmakers have directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to implement the decision by reinstating the constituency in the next Delta State House of Assembly election, after the current legislative term.


The approval follows a motion sponsored by Senator Ned Nwoko (APC, Delta North), detailing how residents of several communities legally fought for the constituency’s restoration.


Despite court rulings in their favor since 2017, including a final Supreme Court decision in 2019, INEC had delayed action.


Senate President Godswill Akpabio emphasized the binding nature of Supreme Court rulings, urging INEC and the House of Representatives to ensure immediate compliance before the 2027 elections.


The decision reaffirms the Senate’s commitment to upholding judicial verdicts and ensuring proper legislative representation for Aniocha North II.
