 IGP DECLARES OPEN 2025 NIGERIA POLICE PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICERS’ CONFERENCE …Tasks PPROs on strategic communication, combating misinformation The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, on Monday, December 8, 2025, declared open the 2025 Annual Conference of Police Public Relations Officers (PPROs) of the Nigeria Police Force, held at the Police Resource Centre, Abuja. In his keynote address, the IGP described the annual conference as “a strategic national engagement and a critical platform for strengthening police-public communication, shaping national narratives constructively, and deepening trust between the Police and citizens.” He emphasised that modern-day policing is increasingly defined by public trust, transparency, and the quality of communication between law enforcement agencies and the public, noting that the Public Relations Officers remain central to institutional credibility.  PDP Governors, Leaders Reject Coalition Plans, Focus on Rebuilding Party for 2027


Governors elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and key party figures have ruled out joining any coalition ahead of the 2027 presidential election, choosing instead to concentrate on revitalizing and strengthening the PDP. The resolution was made during an overnight meeting from Wednesday to Thursday in Abuja, where party leaders agreed to channel their resources into rebuilding the party rather than pursuing new political alliances.


The decision follows recent remarks by former Vice President and 2023 PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, who suggested a possible coalition of opposition forces to challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027. However, the Abuja meeting, attended by prominent PDP stalwarts, reaffirmed the party’s commitment to internal renewal.


Among those present were former Senate Presidents David Mark and Bukola Saraki, former governors Ahmed Makarfi (Kaduna), Sule Lamido (Jigawa), and Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), as well as former Minister of Police Affairs Adamu Maina Waziri and former Defence Minister Lawal Batagarawa. Governors Bala Mohammed of Bauchi and Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa represented the PDP Governors’ Forum.


A source close to the meeting described the discussions as frank and purposeful, with a unified resolve to fortify the PDP. “They resolved that there’s no need to abandon the PDP or work on any coalition,” the source told newsmen. “Instead, they believe the same resources, energy, time, and strategies intended for building a coalition should be deployed toward revamping the PDP.”


The leaders acknowledged that internal challenges are not unique to the PDP, noting that even the ruling APC faces its own crises. They emphasized the importance of reconciliation, party unity, and grassroots mobilization to position the PDP as a formidable contender in the 2027 elections.
