PRESIDENT TINUBU CONGRATULATES GOVERNOR HYACINTH ALIA ON HIS 60TH BIRTHDAY President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia,  Governor of Benue State, and an ordained priest on his 60th birthday. In a statement personally signed by President Tinubu, he says "I commend Governor Alia for his transformative efforts to industrialise the state and expand its road network. Benue State, famously Nigeria's food basket, now has tomatoes and fruit juice, beer, nylon and polythene factories, as well as a large-scale bakery, providing jobs for its people and adding value to its agricultural products. The iconic underpasses in Makurdi and Gboko have also eased traffic and improved urban life." It adds that Governor Alia's political journey is simply that of faith made manifest, ordained a Catholic priest in 1990 by Bishop Athanasius Atule Usuh of Makurdi Catholic Diocese.  The Law To Investigate Unexplained Wealth Of People Is A Bad Idea - Clara Kasser-Tee

Legal influencer,  Clara Kowlaga Kasser-Tee, has cautioned that Parliament’s legislation of a lifestyle audit for individuals suspected of amassing unexplained wealth will negatively impact the fight against corruption.

She believes that the corrupt people are smarter and will always beat the system, especially if a legislative measure is being set to curb it

According to her, such persons will certainly resort to the use of sophisticated structuring that will legally conceal ownership.

Clara Kowlaga Kasser-Tee stated that they would rather hoard proceeds in offshore accounts rather than keep it in the country and live lavishly.

Her statement comes after Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, announced that Parliament is set to begin drafting legislation to support lifestyle audits for individuals suspected of amassing unexplained wealth, marking a significant step toward enhancing Ghana’s fight against corruption.

She believes the law being drafted by Parliament is a bad idea because “There will be more capital flight, and other economies will benefit at the expense of the Ghanaian economy. This is not how to fight corruption”.

She made this known in a post shared via social media, “This may have a persecution effect, and give a populist impression of fighting corruption, but no, it will not fight corruption. I repeat, it will not fight corruptuon. The truly corrupt are smarter than that.

Where do you think the truly corrupt will keep their loot? In Ghana? Do you know how many offshore banks will gladly receive the loot, and keep ‘confidentiality? Do you know sophisticated structuring that will legally conceal ownership? Lets keep.targeting small fishes, just as we have been doing with plaintain thieves.

Until someone complained that so much dollars was stolen from their room, who suspected they had that much ? Did you see them in overly flamboyant lives?

This law is a bad idea. There will be more capital flight, and other economies will beneft at the expense of the Ghanaian economy. This is not how to fight corruption”.
