Police Arrest 27 Hoodlums, Recover Weapons After Naval Officer’s Fatal Stabbing In Kaduna

The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested 27 hoodlums during a series of coordinated raids in the Kawo area following the tragic killing of Lieutenant Commodore M. Buba, a senior naval officer.

Commodore Buba, a student at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, was fatally stabbed around 5:20 a.m. on Sunday, June 8, 2025, while attempting to fix a flat tyre near the Kawo flyover.

According to police spokesperson DSP Mansir Hassan, an unidentified man approached Buba and demanded his phone. When Buba resisted, he was stabbed in the chest with a locally made knife.

Bystanders at the scene reportedly subdued and killed the attacker on the spot. The officer was rushed to Manaal Hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.

In response to the incident and broader security concerns, the police launched a large-scale operation across the Kawo axis later that evening. The raid, conducted around 8:30 p.m. on June 8, involved personnel from the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services (DSS), Kaduna State Geographic Information Service (KADGIS), and local vigilante groups.

During the sweep, 27 individuals described as hoodlums were arrested. Authorities recovered an assortment of weapons including knives, axes, and cutlasses, as well as large quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and other illicit drugs.

However, police clarified that those arrested were not directly linked to Commodore Buba’s killing but were part of a broader crackdown on criminal elements in the area.

Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, praised the collaboration among the security agencies and reaffirmed the Command's commitment to ridding the state of criminal activity.

“Kaduna remains a peaceful state, and we are determined to sustain that peace. The Command will not allow miscreants or criminally-minded individuals to destabilize our communities,” CP Muhammad stated.

He warned those with criminal intentions to desist or leave the state, emphasizing that “there will be no hiding place for criminals.”
