 A Texas man is being charged with m*rder after he shot an armed home intruder who forced his way into his home. This alarming incident occurred on the evening of Friday, January 9th; in Big Springs, Texas.  On the night in question, the Big Springs Police Department responded to a home after receiving a 911 call. Upon their arrival, they were met outside by 43-year-old Joel Florez, pictured below. While questioning Florez, they learned that there was a gunshot victim inside of the home. When officers made their way into the home they discovered 36-year-old Phillip Lozano deceased from a gunshot wound. During the ensuing investigation, they learned Lozano had forced his way into the home while armed with a weapon. Once inside the home, Florez shot Lozano, causing a fatal injury.  For unknown reasons, officers determined there was probable cause to charge Joel Florez with homicide in the death of Philip Lozano.  Benue Governor Approves Suspension of Three Officials After Assembly Showdown


Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has approved the suspension of three public officials, resolving a tense standoff with the Benue State House of Assembly. The decision follows the Assembly’s resolution to suspend the officials for one month each, a move the governor initially delayed, sparking friction between the executive and legislative arms of government.


The affected officials are Mr. Maxwell Ogiri, Executive Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area; Mrs. Grace Adagba, Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB); and Mr. Michael Uper, Executive Secretary of the Benue State Lottery Commission. The suspensions take effect immediately, as announced in a statement on Wednesday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula.


The statement outlined Governor Alia’s affirmation of the Assembly’s resolutions, emphasizing his commitment to the rule of law and separation of powers. “In line with the resolutions passed by the House, His Excellency affirms the suspension of the three officials for a period of one month, effective from today,” the statement read. It further noted that the governor commended the Assembly for fulfilling its constitutional duties and urged affected institutions to ensure uninterrupted service delivery during the suspension period.


Governor Alia also reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to transparency, accountability, and good governance, calling on the people of Benue State to support ongoing efforts to build a state that serves all citizens.


The suspensions mark the resolution of a dispute that had raised concerns about the balance of power within the state government, with the governor now aligning with the Assembly’s directive.
