ZIMBABWEAN COUPLE DEPORTED OVER SECRET BURIAL OF CHILD IN BOTSWANA A Zimbabwean couple has been deported from Botswana after secretly burying their child without notifying authorities. Motilinah Mpofu and Christopher Ncube were convicted on Thursday of concealing a death after they allegedly dug a grave for their child in the dead of night. The Gaborone court heard the child had died suddenly. Instead of reporting the death to police, health officials, or traditional leaders, the couple quietly buried the youngster and hoped no one would find out. But the secret did not stay buried for long.   Police moved in and arrested the pair. In sentencing, the court ordered that the couple be taken to the Plumtree Border Post for deportation to Zimbabwe.  Top Botswana lawyer Winnie Masitha who offered the couple free legal representation during the trial, confirmed the deportation to BTV News.  LASG RELEASES TRAFFIC DIVERSION PLAN TO CONNECT DRAIN ALONG MODUPE ALAKIJA CRESCENT TO THE DRAIN ALONG THE MEDIAN ON OSBORNE ROAD, IKOYI, ETI-OSA LGA

In line with efforts to improve the drainage system on Modupe Alakija Crescent and its environs, there is a need to connect the newly constructed drains, via a cross culvert, to the underground channel beneath the median along Osborne Road, Ikoyi, Eti-Osa LGA.

The construction of this cross culvert will require cutting a section of Osborne Road (before Foreshore Towers). The work is scheduled to commence by 10:00 p.m. on Friday, 15th August, 2025 and end by midnight on Sunday, 17th August, 2025.

A traffic management plan will be implemented over the two-day period to minimise disruption. This will involve a counter-flow arrangement along Osborne/Alfred Rewane Road, spanning approximately 100 meters from Modupe Alakija Crescent to the Alfred Rewane Road junction.

Motorists heading to Osborne Road from Alfred Rewane Road will be diverted into a contraflow lane inbound Osborne Road, before reconnecting to their normal lane.

Motorists inbound Alfred Rewane Road from Osborne Road will be restricted to one lane to allow for the counter-flow.

Alternative Routes:

Motorists from Osborne Road heading towards Alfred Rewane Road should use Oba Adeyemi Oyekan Avenue to connect to Glover Road, Lugard Avenue, or Cameron Road to continue their journeys.

Likewise, motorists heading towards Osborne Road from Alfred Rewane Road should use Glover Road, Lugard Avenue, or Cameron Road to connect Oba Adeyemi Oyekan Avenue before continuing their journeys.

The road will be fully reopened to traffic on Monday, 18th August, 2025.

The Ministry of Transportation, through the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), will manage vehicular movement along the corridor to minimise inconvenience.

ADVISORY: Motorists are urged to be patient, as this partial closure is part of the traffic management plan to facilitate the ongoing drainage construction works along Osborne/Alfred Rewane Road.

Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi,

Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation.
