Yemen fighting pushes nearly 3,000 to Djibouti in less than a week: UN    Nearly 3,000 people have fled Yemen for Djibouti in less than a week as escalating violence drives growing displacement within the country and across its borders, the UN refugee agency said Friday. “Refugees continue to arrive by boat through Obock, Khor Angar, Moulhoule and Godoria after difficult journeys in small vessels,” UNHCR representative in Djibouti Sandrine Desamours told reporters in Geneva, Anadolu Agency reported. More than half of those crossing the Bab el-Mandeb Strait are women and children, while some families have been displaced for a second time after previously fleeing Yemen during the 2015 crisis and later returning. UNHCR is preparing for at least 10,000 new arrivals but warned that capacity is rapidly diminishing.  Parents and child killed after tree falls on car amid heavy rain and flooding in Tennessee 

A mother, father, and child were killed when a large tree fell on their car during heavy rain and flooding in East Ridge, a suburb of Chattanooga, Tennessee, officials said Wednesday. The tree toppled due to saturated ground just after midnight, according to Hamilton County Office of Emergency Management spokesperson Amy Maxwell.

Authorities are also searching for a man who went missing after walking through a flooded road in Chattanooga on Tuesday night. The full extent of the storm’s damage remains unclear, with county officials planning assessments on Wednesday morning. Flooding on Tuesday prompted multiple rescues of people trapped in vehicles and homes, and the region was preparing for more rainfall. Hamilton County Mayor Weston Wamp declared a local state of emergency, urging residents to exercise extreme caution.

The National Weather Service issued a flood watch for much of middle Tennessee through Wednesday night, warning of scattered flash floods, heavy rainfall, and “training” storms, particularly in areas already saturated. Chattanooga Fire crews helped residents stuck in homes and vehicles, while portions of Interstate 24 were briefly closed due to flooding. Swiftwater rescue teams also evacuated residents from three East Ridge homes threatened by rising waters.

Hamilton County Sheriff Austin Garrett said the flooding was more widespread than usual, complicating rescue efforts. “This is extremely widespread. It made it difficult for us to even get here ourselves to try to help other people,” he said, noting he had never seen flooding affect so many areas simultaneously and disrupt travel to this extent.
