GOV. ALIA TO BUILD AIRPORT, EXPORT/IMPORT ZONE IN BENUE

26th September, 2025

The Benue State Government has announced plans to construct a new airport with international, domestic, and cargo terminals, alongside an Export/Import Processing Zone on the Makurdi–Gboko Road.

Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Rev. Dr. Frederick Ikyaan, disclosed this on Friday during a meeting with traditional rulers from Guma, Gboko, Gwer and Tarka LGAs. He said the airport will be located after Agasha junction while the processing zone will cover about 100 hectares on the opposite side.

Ikyaan noted that the land survey has been completed and that Governor Hyacinth Alia has directed work to commence immediately. He added that traditional rulers were consulted to ensure smooth implementation.

Responding, Ter Gwer, Chief Dominic Akpe, and Ter Gboko, Chief Gabriel Shosom, welcomed the project but called for adequate compensation for affected communities. They commended Governor Alia for the initiative and pledged cooperation.

The meeting also had in attendance senior government officials, including the Special Adviser to the Governor on Lands, Surv. Matthias Antor, and the Director-General of Benue Geographic Information System, Prof. Daniel Amine.
